Lifeguard Instructor Course
Instructor candidates are trained to teach basic-level lifeguarding, waterfront lifeguarding, waterpark lifeguarding, shallow water attendant (all including first aid), lifeguard management, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, and Bloodborne Pathogen Training (Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses). Instructor candidates will become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow and the Water Safety presentations.
Registration:
- Registration will begin one month before the class date, at the NMSU Aquatic Center. Payment for course and course materials will be required on the first scheduled class after the successful completion of the prerequisites.
- Lifeguard instructor candidates must be at least 17 years of age on or before the last scheduled day of the instructor course.
- Possesses a current basic-level certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Candidates must successfully complete the pre-course session
- Demonstrate competency in ALL Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR skills.
- Successfully complete the online Introduction to the Lifegaurding Instructor Course before the first day of the course.
- Successfully completed the pre-course skills session. (Pre-course session is conducted on the first day of the course.)
Required Materials:
- Lifeguard Instructor Manual can be purchased at www.redcross.org/participantmaterials or uploaded digitally. Manuals are mandatory for all courses.
