Climbing Wall
The NMSU Climbing Wall stands 28’ tall and has ten ropes for top rope climbing. Fixed anchors and quickdraws allow for lead climbing (upon certification). Outdoor Rec student staff work hard to create new and challenging routes every week, so there are always fresh lines between 5.5 and 5.12 to project and send.
The bouldering wall section is steep, burly, and demanding. Climbers can top out and there are always 20-30 problems in the V0-V7 range. It is used heavily during the fall and spring semesters, for this reason, it has new routes set every month, before competitions, and when the semester changes.

Climbing Competition:
NMSU Outdoor Recreation hosts bouldering competitions in the fall and spring. Compete with peers or challenge yourself with specially set boulder problems. The top three males and females in beginner and advanced categories receive awards. Prize drawings for scorecard submissions. All competitions are part of the Aggie Cup.

No registration is needed, just show up at the climbing wall on the day of the competition. There is no cost to participate and only students are eligible.
Eligibility:
The climbing wall is available for full-time students and Aggie Fit members. All climbers must sign a waiver and pass an orientation before using the NMSU Climbing Wall. If you are already skilled in climbing and belaying, you may opt to pass a skills check instead of attending a full belay clinic. Come by and sharpen your climbing and bouldering skills!

Get belayed certified! The NMSU belay certification allows you to climb and belay on top rope. Walk-ins all semester long!

Get certified to lead the climb! The NMSU lead certification allows you to climb and belay on the big wall.

Clinics are a first come, first serve. Arrive at the climbing wall 15 minutes early to fill out a waiver and other registration forms. A minimum of two people must sign up before the clinic start time. All skills taught are up to the Climbing Wall Attendant's discretion, based on class size limitations and possible cancellations.
Climbing Wall Reservations:
The Climbing Wall can be reserved for group functions. Our staff will facilitate the use of the wall and provide basic climbing instruction.
