Outdoor Trips & Clinics

Trip Sign Ups

All trip sign ups are conducted at the Outdoor Center in room 108 of the Activity Center. Deadlines for sign ups will be on the Tuesday before the trip at 5:30pm. Only full time students are eligible to participate in Outdoor Recreation trips. Students may pay for trips by cash, credit, or by check. (The Outdoor Center can only issue refunds to those paying by credit card.)

Pre-Trip Meetings

All trips will have a pre-trip meeting on the Tuesday prior to the trip at 5:30pm at the Outdoor Center. The pre-trip meeting is conducted to inform participants of necessary logistics, equipment, and activities associated with the trip, as well as allow participants to: meet trip leaders, meet other participants, and complete mandatory paperwork. All participants must fill out an Informed Consent Form and a Medical Information Form. If participants are unable to attend the pre-trip meeting, participants must set up other arrangements with the trip leader prior to the start of the trip.

Stone Age Climbing Gym Day Trip

Join us as we travel to Albuquerque to spend the day at Stone Age, Albuquerque’s premier climbing gym. (Cost includes gym entrance and transportation)

The Cave Climbing Gym Day Trip

Check out El Paso’s Bouldering Gym as we climb for the day! Great for anyone itching for a new bouldering spot!

Wolf Creek Ski/Snowboard Trip

Join us for a chance to ski and snowboard as we head to Colorado! We’ll be skiing and snowboarding for the day, and then relaxing at Pagosa Hot Springs! (Cost includes hotel and transportation only.)

Dona Ana Mountain Biking

These are the premier mountain biking trails in the Las Cruces area, with miles and miles of trails ranging from beginner to quite challenging and rocky terrain for experts. Bring your bike or rent one of ours and join us! (Helmets are required)

Hueco Tanks Bouldering Tour

Take advantage of this unique opportunity and come climbing with us as we take a guided bouldering tour around Hueco Tanks, a premier climbing spot in the U.S. No experience is necessary.

Baylor Pass Day Hike

Take a hike! With us! We will be hiking Baylor Pass, a popular hiking area in Las Cruces.

Grindstone Mountain Biking Trip

Bring your helmet and bike (or rent them from us) as we hit the trails in Ruidoso! These are intermediate trails so experience is preferred.

Big Bend Spring Break Trip

Need spring break plans? Go on this multisport adventure to the most underrated National Park in the country! We will be canoeing, mountain biking, camping, soaking in hot springs, and exploring the mysterious Marfa lights.

Cochise Spring Break Climbing Trip

Go on a quick getaway and spend part of your spring break camping and rock climbing at Cochise! All levels of abilities are encouraged to sign up!

Intro to Backpacking

New to backpacking? This trip is geared towards the beginner backpacker. We will cover all the basics from purifying water, map colors and legends, proper clothing and equipment, and more so that you can become confident in your own backpacking adventures. We will be hiking in the White Mountain Wilderness located in Lincoln National Forest.  Participants can expect to hike approximately 7 miles round trip.

Sailing Overnight Trip

Join us for an overnight sailing and camping trip at Elephant Butte Lake. We will learn basic sailing skills, camp on the beach, and do some more sailing! No experience is necessary.

Bouldering at Hueco Tanks

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing stripped down to its raw essentials. This trip will take place at Hueco Tanks, one of the premiere spots in the country. Leaving behind the ropes and harnesses, instructors will help you navigate the challenge of bouldering problems through basic introduction to climbing techniques. All level of abilities are encouraged to join.

 Weekly Clinics

(Clinics will continue at the start of the spring semester!)

(clinics will not be held during summer sessions, holiday breaks, or the final two weeks of the semester)

 

Belay Clinics

Get belayed certified! The NMSU belay certification allows you to climb and belay on top rope. Walk-ins all semester long!

When: Mondays and Tuesdays 6pm-8pm

Lead Clinics

Get lead certified! The NMSU lead certification allows you to lead climb and belay on the big wall.

When: Wednesdays 6pm-8pm

Sign ups are held at the climbing wall. (There must be a minimum of two people signed up on the day prior to the clinic)

All special clinics are free of charge and will meet in the Outdoor Center room 108 of the Activity Center unless otherwise specified.
